Fezzik = totally awesome
I was able to rename 800 files using Excel data by way of a cool program called Fezzik. I am able to remember the name Fezzik, because Fezzik is the name of a character (played by Andre the Giant) in “The Princess Bride,” a movie I have seen many times.
You download and install Fezzik. Then you right click on your folder containing your files. You select rename/edit with Fezzik, and it displays all of the folder’s files in a text editor. It is easy to copy and paste from here. Just remember to “paste special.”
Here’s where you can get Fezzik, on Google.
This is seriously awesome. It is so much better than trying to use a typical (lame) file renamer program.
These last three tricks (command line copying + Excel DigDB + Fezzik) allowed me to complete a project in 1-2 days… A very similar project took my co-worker 1-2 weeks to complete!
I simply use command line and then Bulk Rename Utility (which accepts a text file as a basis for naming in the form of NAME_A.EXT|NAME_B.EXT – Pipe character is the separator). BRU is a great little free programme – nothing lame about it.
